Cruel Whispers: A Supernatural Thriller
About
Here’s another suspenseful horror story from the author of ‘The Strange Case of Susanna’. If you liked Stephen King’s Carrie, you will like this book.
Paige has always lived like a spoiled princess from as long as she could remember, with everyone at her beck and call. But after the sixteen-year-old’s bullying behavior goes out of hand and lands her in trouble, her father, in an attempt to turn her around, decides to make her live with a distant relative in an isolated mansion for one month.
Paige’s initial concerns are about boredom and missing out on wild times with her friends. Things get scary and then outright horrifying as she discovers she’s being stalked by a strange girl in a blue school uniform. Why does the creepy-looking girl keep following her wherever she goes, and what are those weird noises that she hears every night outside her window? Paige will need to get to the bottom of this puzzle to survive---before it’s too late.
If you like suspenseful horror stories, then this book is for you. ‘Cruel Whispers’ is a fast-paced, scary ghost story that will not only keep you entertained but may also keep you awake at night.
Excerpt from the book:
“Sometime during the night Paige felt so cold that she woke up, only to find that the drapes on the window were open. At first she was surprised, but it quickly turned into horror as she spotted the abhorrent image of a creature wrapped around one of the grotesque branches of the oak tree.
It was Lily, watching Paige intently from outside. She was reminded of the words in Ben’s letter: waiting outside in all kinds of weather like a hungry rabid wolf. Lily’s bony frame slowly slinked towards her from the branch until she reached the window.
It’s a dream, it’s a dream, thought Paige fervently, trying to clutch on to her bed sheets. To her dismay she found that she was paralyzed from neck down, unable to move or do anything. She could only helplessly watch the nightmare unfold. Grace was fast asleep in the corner, oblivious to Paige’s plight. Lily kept slithering forward like a lizard crawling on a branch, until her frame was pressed to the window.
However, the closed window did not prove to be a barrier, and Lily managed to slide through it into the bedroom. She started crawling on all fours towards Paige. A nauseating stench filled the room, and Paige’s pulse and heartbeat reached a feverish crescendo while Lily steadily closed the distance between them. Lily’s dark, shoulder-length hair was loose and fell on her face, covering it completely. In one of her bony hands, she held a long red ribbon, and she moved slowly and steadily like a cat getting ready to pounce on its unfortunate prey.”
